Types of UPVC Door Handles
It is crucial to select the right replacement handle made of upvc for your home if handles are in need of replacement. Locksmiths can provide and install high-security uPVC handles with extra security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Check these measurements to make sure that your new uPVC handles will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a solid bar that pivots around a central point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply force to the end of the lever, it will tend to rotate the fulcrum to the direction of the force. This rotation multiplies the applied force and allows you to lift or move something that would require a greater amount of force if you were to apply directly to the load.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the maximum amount of movement. This is called the mechanical advantage. The more the lever extends more, the greater the mechanical benefit. You can calculate mechanical advantage by dividing distance from fulcrum point to the point you are applying force by distance between the fulcrum point and end of lever.
Levers can also have a variety of effects based on how the forces are applied. A lever of class 2, for example is prone to rotating in the opposite direction once the effort force is applied. If you press on the door's handle and force it to open, the forces will cause the same rotational effects as this.
However, levers don't create energy. They simply multiply the force you exert by changing a small amount of effort applied over a long distance into a larger amount of force applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move massive amounts of cargo. The principle of the lever is also utilized in everyday tools like crowbars. Hammer claws fishing rods, hammer claws, and your own legs, when you are standing on your car's hand brake.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles , have levers on each side to operate the multipoint locks. These come in many variations & finishes and are suitable for a range of materials including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the inner and exterior door with screws and spindles included. They are available in hand and unhandled versions to suit different users.
They are commonly used in new constructions and are installed to replace existing upvc doors. The levers are lifted to open the multipoint locks and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They offer some extra security when compared to traditional lever door handles since the locking mechanism can only be gained from the inside with keys unless the door is deadlocked.
They are not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are a cost-effective alternative for a home with more security. The only disadvantage is that they do not offer the same level of security as a cylinder bolt, and therefore don't stop external access in the event that the door has been left open.
We stock a variety of lever pad upvc handles that are manufactured by leading manufacturers in the market. They are constructed with top quality components. In general, they come with a manufacturer's warranty.
They are typically designed to work with the 92mm lock, or a substitute version known as a Paddock Lock. They will have a 92mm centre cylinder on the inside and 62mm on the outside. They will also come with two spindle followers. Some come with the backplate in place, while others are movable to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the most basic of door handles are used. Pushing down on the lever triggers a simple latch mechanism inside to keep the door closed. It can also be locked using the use of a key. Certain lever privacy handles operate similar to the doorknob, but with an additional snib, similar to a doorknob.

A snib can be a very useful tool, especially in homes where privacy and security are important. You can use the snib feature to prevent your guest from entering until they are ready. This type handle can also be used for doors in the interior, like those in bedrooms, where you wish to restrict access from outside.
Snib buttons can cause issues in certain circumstances, especially when you have locks that are old and warped doors. If the snib button is accidentally pressed or by a person who isn't familiar with it, your door may slam and lock you out. Most of the time, you can gain entry by knocking on the door frame or letterbox, however this isn't the best option.
If your uPVC has an snib, we suggest replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These smart locks can be retrofitted onto double turn pull handle kits. They come with coverplates that conceal the holes in the existing ones for an easy installation. The E-LOK application can be used to unlock doors with RFID cards or mechanical keys. Passcodes are also offered for security and convenience. The system has been tested to 200 000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles themselves are constructed with a solid-metal construction and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for corrosion resistance.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a well-known handle style for front doors that has the benefit of stopping the door from being opened from outside without a key if the lock is not deadlocked. This is accomplished by an external 'pad' handle which locks in the gap between the handles and the lock case to prevent the latch from being withdrawn or the door being opened.
This kind of handle is designed to fit uPVC doors that are fitted with multipoint locks which operate via split spindle technology. This kind of operation requires that the lever handle and the external pad handle both be fitted to the same lock case. This can be a simple change from the current uPVC handles, but it could also require a change to the lock case or a brand new set of handle furniture to allow this additional functionality.
These aluminium lever/movable pad handles are suitable for uPVC doors. They feature a maintenance free slide bearing, spring cassettes, and fixing lugs supplied. These handles have a cut-out for a euro-profile, and can be mounted on many uPVC or wood doors.
Lever moveable pads are offered in various finishes and suit many different multipoint locks. They are specifically designed to be used with split spindle locks that have a centre cylinder of 92mm and require a separate set of split spindles supplied by the manufacturer of the lock.
These Hoppe London 77G/3831N/113 lever moveable pad handles are manufactured from cast aluminium with an anodised finish that is corrosion resistant and has high scratch resistance. They can be used with many other Hoppe products like handles for french door handles and window handles. They are also fitted with a security escutcheon.
Lever/Moveable Snib
The lever handle is one of the most well-known kinds of door handles made of upvc and is available in a range of designs. It consists of two moveable inline handles and can be locked using either a key or a thumbturn cylinder that is inside. A pad handle can be used as a substitute to lever or lever handles. It is made up of an adjustable or fixed pad which can be used to operate locks. These Fullex handles are sprung lever pad with a snib that can be triggered to stop the latch from closing.
